H1N1 Flu: Important Information for the University Community
FEBRUARY 2010 — Reported cases of flu-like illnesses at the University have shown a dramatic decrease since the end of the fall semester. Through January 2010, a total of 463 students have experienced flu-like illness, according to University Health Service. All of the students recovered and no students were hospitalized. Since mid-January, UHS has recorded only a few new cases of flu-like illness each week.
There are no changes to University of Rochester operations or activities because of public concern about novel H1N1 influenza.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting “relatively low” flu activity across the United States at this time. “Most flu continues to be caused by 2009 H1N1 viruses, with very little seasonal flu spreading so far,” CDC officials said. That situation is expected to continue for several months. The CDC is now encouraging the public to get vaccinated against 2009 H1N1.
Flu information continues to be available at the CDC Web site: www.cdc.gov/flu/.

If you are an undergraduate in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering or the Eastman School of Music, you can input or edit your contact information in the AlertUR system. (NOTE: Text messages will be delivered more quickly than voice messages.)
Phase I is operating for all undergraduates and will be expanded to others in the University community. Phase II is under development for graduate students, faculty, and staff.
